Contact Meagan

In an urban setting, nature is often organized and controlled. City parks, botanical gardens, arboretums, and courtyards contrast industrial concrete and steel, allowing us to reconnect with nature. The plants selected are colorful, clean and fragrant, producing a manicured and idealized environment.

My current work explores and celebrates the city garden and our urban scenery. The goal is to stylize botanical forms by creating simplified shapes that reflect the organization of a planned city landscape.

For many, the simple act of gardening provides a welcome respite from everyday urban life. Overall, I strive to recreate feelings of comfort and harmony through composition, color, and texture.

...nature is often organized and controlled.

Meagan Chaney received her BA in studio art with a concentration in sculpture from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Her work has been shown nationally and resides in the permanent collections of Capital Broadcasting, Inc. (Durham, NC), O2 Fitness (Cary, NC) and Meredith College (Raleigh, NC).

In 2004, she was awarded an Artist Residency at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. While there, Meagan instructed both youth and adult classes, participated in gallery installations, fundraising auctions, and artist outreach programs.

Meagan has taught workshops on basic and advanced glass fusing techniques and mixed media sculpture at John C. Campbell Folk School (Brasstown, NC) and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Gatlinburg, TN).

She has also given conference lectures at The Visual Art Exchange (Presenting Yourself, Presenting Your Work, 2003) and The Tri-State/SECAC Conference (Photographing Your Artwork for a Professional Portfolio, 2003) in Raleigh, NC.

Her sculptures are largely influenced by natural shapes and patterns, and she uses contrasting materials and surface textures to explore the relationships between form and color.

Meagan's work can be found at The Society for Contemporary Craft (Pittsburg, PA) The Arch and Curve Studios (Asheville, NC), Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Gatlinburg, TN), Florida Craftsmen (St. Petersburg, FL), and Brick City Center for the Arts (Ocala, FL)

Meagan lives in Ocala, Florida with her husband Ben, her son Cooper (with a baby on the way) and their cat, Sussa.
